In a Dairy Herd, Milkers are what it is all about

The following is a brief guide to our mature LaMancha milking herd. We focus on breeding LaManchas that have long and very productive lactations as well as being long lived and healthy animals. Loving and easy going personalities are very important to us. We offer kids for sale from most of these does each spring. Information on kids from these ladies can be found on the kid sales page or on the breedings page. Daughters we have kept from these girls can be seen on the other LaMancha pages. We will be updating these photos this spring as we are able. Check out the Udder page to see rear shots of these ladies mammaries.

UPDATE: Secret received her milking star this June! Sadly, Molly missed her star by a tenth of a point. Oh well. She is a star milker to us and we shall test her again as soon as possible.

CH Appleberry Cove Fudge Eclair 3/15/02 (LA 89 VEVE)

sire: *B Appleberry Cove Sandman

dam: Firepink-Holler Chocolatefudge (LA 83+VV+)

Eclair has always been our little surprise doe. She is a little small in stature but more than makes up for this fact in her quality of structure as her show records exhibit. To date her show record stands at: 3x grand champion, 9x reserve champion, 2x best of breed, 3x best udder of breed, 1x best udder in show, and a member of the best dairy herd of breed 5 times and fall 2008 was a member of the best dairy herd in show! Not only has Eclair herself done well, she seems to pass on her wonderful confirmation and personality to her offspring along with added size. Both Secret and Angel have done very well and we are now watching Eclair's youngest daughter, Ella, as she is growing into a beautiful doe just as Eclair is known for producing. You can see Secret below and Angel and Ella on the other Sr. La Mancha page.

October 2008 Eclair did extremly well. At the Dixie Classic Fair Oct.11-12  in the youth show she won Grand Champion, Best of Breed and Best Doe in Show. In the open show she won Grand Champion and Best of Breed. At the Raleigh State Fair Oct.24-26 in the youth show won 1st, Grand Champion, Best Udder of Breed and Best Udder in Show. In the Open show won 1st. and Reserve Grand. This fall she placed 2nd in her chapion challange class.

We milk tested her in 2004 and she tested at 4.2% butterfat. Eclair is extreamly easy to milk and a very gentle and personable doe.

This fall Eclair has been bred to Savvy. 2nd doe and all bucks will be available.

1*M Appleberry Cove Dark Secrets 4/8/04 (LA 90 VEEE)

sire: Appleberry Cove Hermes Wings

dam: CH Appleberry Cove Fudge Eclair (89 VEVE)

Secret came into the world with a wham and has been bouncing ever since. For several months she was the only doe kid on the farm and ended up quite spoiled. Secret is a long, tall, and smoothly blended doe. She was always been rather big for her age and has matured to be a very large doe. Her udder is very soft in texture and well attached. She is milking very well. She peaked in 2008 as a 4 year old, 3rd freshener with 15.4 lbs. She is giving Pumpkin a run for the money on being our heaviest milker in the herd.

Secret has turned out to be more than just another pretty face. Her show record stands at: 4x grand champion, 3x reserve champion, and 2x best of breed. She was also a member of the best dairy herd in show fall 2008 and the second place dairy herd at the Raleigh State Fair.

Secret was bred to Pippin this year. All bucks and 2nd doe kid will be available for sale spring 2010.

Shining-Light Trace Motif 5/22/04 (LA 86 +VVV)

sire: Shining-Light Trace-Elliot AI

dam: SG F.D.F. Pleasent-Field's Tory (LA 82 ++E+)

Molly's lovable personality has made her a favorite on the farm. She is a tall, upstanding doe with a strong rear leg set. She has been a very steady milker but this passed summer, Molly decided to show us what she was made of and peaked at 15.1lbs!

To date, Molly has been grand and reserve grand champion once, has placed 1st and 2nd many times. She has also a member of the best dairy herd of breed 4 times. Last fall she was a member of the best dairy herd in show! Also a member of the second place dairy herd at the Raleigh State Fair.

Molly's udder has very strong side attachments, a long fore udder, good width to the rear udder and milks well. If there is one thing we would change on her udder, we would set it further back as it tilts foreward slightly. This is improving as she is aging and increasing milk production. She is wonderfully level across the topline and has a long and wide rump.

Molly's sire is a son of the famous ++ SG *B Winterwood's The Medicine Man and CH Rabfolk's Nilla Bean.

Molly has been bred to Pippin this fall. All bucks and 2nd doe kid will be avialable.

Listening Eagle Lydia 3/8/05 (LA 88 VEVV)

sire: Listening Eagle Dante'

dam: Listening Eagle Josephine

Lydia is a very large young doe with excellent depth of barrel, lenght of rump, and width of chest. Lydia is a very sweet and gentle doe that has completely won us over with her personalty.

Lydia milked fairly well for her first freshening in 2007. Her udder is well attached in the rear and sides. Her foreudder also shows much strength. This spring, Lydia has freshened with a ton of milk and beautiful maturing to her mammary system. We are very pleased with her udder's structure and her easy of milking.

Lydia's show record for 2009 so far is 3x 1st, 1x grand champion & 1x reserve grand to Secret! She has matured very well and has shown well for us this fall.

Lydia will be bred to Sammy this fall. 2nd doe kid and all buck kids will be available.

Lunashower TEC Cecilia 3/14/06 (LA 87 VVVE)

Sire: *B South-Fork TR Tuff Enuff

Dam: GCH 1*M Brush-Creek Cinnamon (LA 88 VV+E)

Cecilia and her twin sister Sabrina were two of the biggest surprises we have had yet on this farm. Cinnamon is well known for having sons and when we went to an outside buck it was almost a guarantee that she would kid with boys. But she presented us with her second and third daughters and we could not have been more pleased not only with their body structure but also their beautiful coloring.

Cecilia freshened with a beautiful and very productive mammary. She is very easy to milk and seems to actually enjoy milking time. She has wonderful overall attachment and nearly ideal teat size and placement. Cecilia, just like her twin, has amazing udder texture as well.

2009 show record stands so far 1x 1st, 1x 2nd, 1x 3rd, 1x grand champion, 1x best udder of breed, and a member of 1st place dairy herd at the Dixie Classic Fair in Winston Salem.

Cecilia has been bred to Inquest this fall. 2nd doe kid and all buck kids will be available.

Lunashower TEC Sabrina Fair 3/14/06 (LA 89 VEVE)

Sire: *B South-Fork TR Tuff Enuff

Dam: GCH 1*M Brush-Creek Cinnamon (LA 88 VV+E)

Pretty Sabrina is the flashy one out of these two little girls. Both have very managable tempers and love to be around people and to be handled. Sabrina freshened with a little less milk than her sister as a yearling but has since than caught up with her in production. Both these girls have very nice and showy mammaries that are well attached and have amazing texture being very soft and pliable. These two ladies have really been maturing into themselves this year and we continue to be pleased with them. At this point in time, Sabrina is the larger of the two. She was the more immature of the two but this year she has really come into herself.

2009 show record: 2x 1st, 1x 2nd, and a member of 1st place dairy herd with Cecilia and Molly.

Sabrina has been bred to Savvy this fall. 2nd doe kid and all bucks will be available.
