Health and Nutritional Management
CAE, TB, and Brucellosis testing
All of our goats are tested annually for CAE, TB, and Brucellosis. All animals over 12 months old will have up to date test results available upon request. Our herd is certified and accredited free of TB and Brucellosis. We have tested for CAE for each of the past 11 years and have received negetive results for each goat every year. We have a disease prevention program implemented into our farm management system in order to enhance our standards. Currently we run a semi-closed herd.
Our feeding and kid raising programs
Our goats are given a 12% pelleted sweet feed supplied by Southern States Feed Co-Op and is certified free of animal by-products. We feed free choice, locally grown mixed grass hay to all our goats and offer alfalfa to milkers and growing kids. Mineral salts are made available to them all the time.
Kids are raised on a CAE prevention program and are generally weaned at 8-10 weeks old. However, some kids are bottle fed longer or shorter according to their individual needs. When weaning our kids we encourage hay eating and only offer grains once their rumens are functioning well.
The vaccinations and suppliments we give
BO-SE shots are given four times a year or as needed. CDTs are given annually. Kids are started on their CDTs at 4 weeks old and are given boosters at 8 weeks. De-worming is done monthly or as needed. Other vitamins and supplements are provided as needed.
Feel free to ask any questions about the above information or anything else about our goats, our disease prevention program, nutrition, etc.
Milk records will be made available at the conclusion of each milking season.
