A look at some of our foundation does and retirees
GCH 1*M Brush-Creek Cinnamon (LA 88VV+E) DOB 12/21/97
Appleberry Cove Pumpkin Spice 3/31/03 (LA 84 AEEE)
dam: Brush-Creek Cheers (DS: *B Adams Creek HCP Arthur Murray AI and DD: Sugar Cove Gretel)
Cinnamon was our first registered dairy goat ever. We needed milk for a sick child. A person we knew had a milk goat for sale. Cinnamon was 2 years old at the time. She has really bloomed since then. She is very long, tall, and has strong feet and legs and a sound mammary that has held up through 8 freshenings. At a one day milk test in 2004 she received her Milking Star with 10.1 lbs (after stepping in the bucket and spilling some) and 4.2% butterfat. Cinnamon also finished her championship as an 8 year old with a final show record of: 3x grand champion, 1x reserve champion, 3x best of breed, and 3x best udder of breed.
Cinnamon has not only shown and milked well but has also proven herself through her sons and daughters. One of her sons, Appleberry Cove Copperline (a herdsire for S-Stock Exchange LaManchas), LA'ed 90 VEE and has won 8x 1st, 4x grand champion, and 1x best buck in show. Another son, *B Appleberry Cove Sandman, though never shown, proved himself as a sire and produced several quality kids including CH Appleberry Cove Fudge Eclair and Appleberry Cove Hermes Wings (a current herdsire for Seligman Farm). Her son *B Lunashower Peregrine Took (one of our own herdsires) has been shown twice with a show record of 2x 1st and reserve champion to his herdmate. He is making his mark in our herd and has produced several very nice daughters (see More SR LaMancha page). Cinnamon's daughters have been few and far between but we finally have all three of them milking. Pumpkin continues to amaze us with her milk production and correct mammary system. Sabrina and Cecilia are very young in their productive careers but are showing great attachment in mammary and beautiful body structure. It is only a matter of time for these two.
Due to Cinnamon's age she has been retired. She will get to live out the rest of her days in the pasture at home.
dam: GCH 1*M Brush-Creek Cinnamon (LA 88 VV+E)
Pumpkin, like her dam, is a late bloomer. She never really showed well until she freshened as a 4 year old. Pumpkin has won numerous first and second places through the past few years. For the fall 2007 show ciruit she placed: 4x second and was a member of the best dairy herd of breed 3 times. She is pictured above as a 5 year old 4th freshener. In 2008 she won 2nd behind Eclair three times and was a member of 2nd dairy herd twice (placed 2nd to herdmates).
Her udder is high and wide in the rear, with strong side attachments, a long and smooth fore udder, and well shaped, easy to milk teats. She has one of the best udders on the farm. At her peak in 2008 she produced 15.9lbs. We cannot wait to put her on test. Pumpkin's littermate brother Appleberry Cove Copperline LA'ed 90 VEE in 2006, 90 EVE in 2008, and finished his championship in the spring of 2007 winning grand champion and Best Buck in Show!
Pumpkin does not like to show and really wants to be a home milker for us so we have semi retired her. She will not see the show ring again but we will continue to milk her through.
CH Appleberry Cove CT Lovey Dovey 3/30/03 (LA 90 VEEE)
Sire: Quartz-Creek Storm Thunderboom
Dam: Firepink-Holler Chickadee (LA 87 VVVV)
Dovey is our first homebred finished champion doe. She is incredibley level, long and wide in the rump, has excellent width of chest, and an overall beautiful udder that milked well and was easy to milk. As for Dovey, she has a wonderful and calm personality and seems to enjoy showing and being around people.
We would like to thank Mark Cobble of Cobble Valley Dairy Goats for purchasing Dovey in spring 2008. We hope she brings as much joy to you as she has to us!
